When is something good enough? When do you decide that you are done? When no more effort is required?
I believe most people accept the end of their efforts on a given task when they assess that it is “good enough” (by most people I don’t mean you, my loyal readers). So, what is the problem with “good enough? Well, nothing. That is nothing if “good enough” is simply viewed as a milestone in the process of getting to the next stage.
Those who consistently achieve at a higher level subconsciously add “for now” at the end of the words “good enough”. That is the critical difference in tinkering instead of settling, Between accepting something is a work in progress instead of final.
Getting average to the next level where it sparkles and shines, getting from okay and fabulous, takes extra effort. The next time you conclude that something is “good enough” should be the exact point when you put it down for a while and come back to it later.
Remember, the last powerpoint presentation with 20 bullet points per slide that put you to sleep within the first five minutes? They likely gave up at “good enough”.
